What Are The Most Realistic Fake Teeth Options?

Last Updated on October 26, 2023 by Jade

There are a number of realistic fake teeth options including dentures, dental implants, and veneers. Since these can be expensive for many people, there are also more affordable DIY fake teeth options now available. These DIY teeth are not as good as the professional options but can work well in certain circumstances.

There are a number of fake teeth options that can look as good as natural teeth… if not better. The most popular options are either dentures, dental implants, or veneers and are available through a dentist or denturist. Dentures come in a variety of forms including full, partial, and flexible. Dental implants are surgically installed into your jawbone and are a safe and logical solution to missing or broken teeth. These are great fake teeth options… however, they also cost a lot of money.

Because of the high prices for dentures, dental implants, and veneers, it makes them out of reach for many people. This is why you can find affordable alternatives to professionally constructed, designed, and implanted dental appliances.

While the majority of these more affordable types of cosmetic fake teeth options are intended to be used in emergency situations, they do work for some time. Keep in mind that they are in actual fact ‘temporary’ teeth, and to see your dentist when you can for proper replacements.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is designed to replace a natural tooth. The natural tooth is the crown, which is the part that comes out from the gum line, and the root which is under the gum line and in the jaw bone. A dental implant can replace the root part of a missing tooth and then have a realistic-looking crown attached.

Dental implants have been in common use since the 1970s and as technology has advanced, so has the quality of these replacement teeth. There are currently about forty different types of dental implants available and they have enriched the lives of millions of people.

How Much Are Fake Teeth?

The question of how much fake teeth options cost is one that is asked frequently.

For regular dentures and dental implants, depending on what kind of implant you require and how many, as well as what material they are made from, the cost will vary. You can expect to spend from a few hundred to several thousand dollars as a result. See an in-depth look at denture prices here.

If you have missing or broken teeth and cannot afford these costs, there is an alternative. Realistic fake teeth can be had at a fraction of the cost of professionally manufactured and installed dental implants. Some are even approved by the Food and Drug Administration (see the options below).

How To Make Fake Teeth at Home

Temptooth Temporary Tooth Replacement

fake teeth options

Temptooth has a product that you can use at home to make your own teeth.

This product consists of white beads that you heat up in hot water. As they become hot, the beads stick together and you can mold them into the shape of a tooth so that it fits into the space of the missing tooth.

Since the product can only be molded into shape when it is hot, care has to be taken not to burn yourself.

When made correctly, the replacement tooth pops into place, but won’t easily fall out, meaning that you can smile and talk with confidence.

Since it is very white, you may have to color the tooth to match your existing teeth. See some instructions on coloring your temporary teeth here (see the comments section at the bottom).

Pros

Easy to use
This permits you to make a realistic-looking temporary tooth
Easy to fit
Instructions are understandable
A bit expensive, but worth it

Cons

Teeth made with this material will stain over time
Some users had difficulty eating while wearing a TempTooth

InstaMorph – Moldable Plastic

The InstaMorph product is very similar to the one above, except it is cheaper, and does not come with the same instructions. However, you use it basically the same way.

You heat up the plastic for a few minutes (which becomes moldable at 150°F / 66°C), and then form it into the desired shape. If it does not turn out the way you like, then no problems… just reheat it and start again.

It’s a quick and easy way to make your own fake teeth at home and can get you out of trouble in no time.

The Last Word on Fake Teeth Options

Fake teeth are not intended to prevent you from seeing a dentist ever again but they can hold you over until you absolutely need to. As long as you do not use cosmetic teeth as a permanent replacement for teeth you should see a dentist about, you should be fine.

When you choose to avoid seeing a dentist because you have opted to use an affordable option for fake teeth, you are also harming yourself. By not seeing your dentist regularly you may develop other issues that only your dentist can remedy if identified early and quickly before they can cause additional damage.

      Hi Mary
Thanks for your message, although I am not 100% sure of your question.
Finding the best solution depends on your current situation, so it is difficult to know what is best for you. These fake teeth options mentioned in this article are only meant as temporary solutions, so if you require a permanent solution, you would be best to speak with your dentist. Dental implants and dentures can be expensive (for more information on prices, click here); however the temporary tooth replacement options mentioned above are very affordable and provide a well-priced and quick result.
      All the best

maybe I missed it but I have one eye tooth that is getting very loose. Isn’t there some kind of glue or adhesive that will allow me to simple glue that one tooth on and that’s it.

      Hi William
If your real tooth is loose, it is probably best to see your dentists as soon as possible so they can advise you best.

    hi
My wife used these small white beads to form a replacement tooth it’s in between 2 of her existing teeth on the bottom but now it’s been there for some weeks. It’s very badly discoloured and she can not get it out again. How does she remove it without breaking the other teeth?

      Hi Cliff
Thanks for reaching out. I am sorry to hear that your wife is having issues. I have not heard of this happening before, so am afraid I can’t be of much help.
It would probably be best to see your dentist or health care professional to get specific advice on the situation.
Sorry I can’t be of any more help than that. All the best.
